Our Elderslea Lodge in Upper Hutt is looking for an experienced and practical Maintenance Manager to join the team and help keep our village safe, well maintained and running smoothly.

This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days will be quite the same. You’ll take ownership of maintenance across the site, from planned and preventative maintenance through to responding to day-to-day issues and coordinating contractors.

Just as importantly, you’ll be part of the village community. You’ll interact regularly with residents and our wider team, so we’re looking for someone who is approachable, helpful and takes pride in creating a safe and welcoming environment for the people who live and work at Elderslea Lodge.

What you'll be doing

• Managing day-to-day maintenance requirements across the village

• Developing, implementing and monitoring planned and preventative maintenance schedules

• Ensuring buildings, plant, property and non-medical equipment are maintained to the required standards

• Making sure maintenance activities meet relevant compliance, regulatory and legislative requirements

• Identifying maintenance issues early and finding practical solutions

• Coordinating and supervising external contractors and ensuring work is completed safely and effectively

• Supporting health and safety requirements, including identifying and managing potential hazards

• Managing maintenance resources responsibly and keeping the site leadership team informed of issues that may have cost implications

• Assisting residents with practical maintenance needs where appropriate

• Providing on-call support for facility emergencies when required

The role has a strong focus on compliance and preventative maintenance, alongside maintaining an environment that supports resident safety, independence and quality of life.

What you'll bring

We’re looking for someone who is practical, organised and comfortable taking ownership. You’ll be able to prioritise competing maintenance needs while building positive relationships with residents, colleagues and contractors.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Previous trade-based experience

• Good knowledge of Building Code and compliance requirements

• Experience managing maintenance activities and working to compliance standards

• Recent experience coordinating or supervising contractors

• The ability to manage resources and work within an agreed budget

• Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, solutions-focused approach

• Good organisation and time management skills

• Clear communication and strong relationship-building skills

• A genuine willingness to help others and contribute to the wider village team

• A full, clean New Zealand driver licence
