Our residents are at the centre of everything we do at The Helier, and we're looking for an experienced Sous Chef to support our Executive Chef in leading the day-to-day operations of the kitchen, ensuring exceptional food quality, operational excellence, and an outstanding dining experience for our residents.
It is necessary you have:
A passion for creating exceptional food and dining experiences.
A completed culinary apprenticeship, or equivalent experience.
Previous experience in a Sous Chef or senior kitchen leadership role.
Excellent customer service and people relationship skills.
Safe Food NZQA 167, 168, 20666 or 27955 certificates (or equivalent).
A positive 'can do' attitude, always ready to go the extra mile.
A collaborative, team-first mindset.
Strong leadership, organisational and time management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop others.
The ability to work calmly and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Respect for resident confidentiality.
The ability to work rostered shifts.
You will be responsible for:
Supporting the Executive Chef with the day-to-day management of kitchen operations.
Leading the kitchen team in the Executive Chef's absence and ensuring smooth service delivery.
Being familiar with daily and ongoing menus, functions, specials and seasonal offerings.
Assisting with menu planning, recipe development and contributing ideas for new dishes.
Supervising, coaching and developing kitchen team members to maintain high culinary standards.
Ensuring individual responsibilities are allocated and completed to meet daily service, function and special event requirements.
Monitoring food quality, consistency and presentation to ensure every dish meets The Helier's standards.
Ensuring sufficient stock is available, maintaining appropriate inventory levels and minimising waste.
Assisting with ordering, stock control and notifying the Executive Chef of stock shortages or purchasing requirements.
Preparing and cooking food to the highest standard while following recipes and established procedures.
Maintaining excellent food safety, hygiene and cleanliness standards in accordance with the Food Control Plan.
Ensuring all statutory and establishment hygiene regulations are strictly adhered to.
Monitoring kitchen equipment and promptly reporting maintenance issues.
Delivering top-class customer service and creating exceptional dining experiences for residents and guests.
Supporting food service operations while maintaining efficiency, quality and cost control.
Leading by example, fostering a positive team culture and promoting continuous improvement.
Continuing to develop your own skills while encouraging learning and growth within the team.
